A Bird in Flight
By Zaina Starr
Whisk in some wanton wicked words,
A poem like this would have really put me on the map,
Turns out good fences do make good neighbors,
We need to learn to get through the pain of feeling undervalued by others,
It leads us nowhere,
It’s unethical,
It’s hardening me in a way I don’t like,
Creativity is a bird who’s meant for flight,
So that they know they’re not alone in the world,
I’ve been tormented by a side kick,
The two most important days in my life are the day I was born and the day I found out why,
Golden messages of the mellowing year,
All I can say is I’m moving forward to focus on my future,
Having my cake and eating it too,
I am where I need to be.
