A True Friend
By Zaina Starr
A true friend. What is that? Everyone has their own definition of that. A true friend to me is the one who tells you what you don’t want to hear. The one who does not lie to you. There’s not many of those around anymore.
I lived most of the past three years where nobody was my friend. Not one person could tell me the truth. That my ex was and had been cheating on me the whole time. Why? Because I was made to look like the bad one. Every dollar I worked for was given to him. And yet I got beat so badly that some days I don’t even know how I survived. Always trying…for him.
I still catch myself doing this for the men in my life. And yet I’m always the one made out to be the fool. When I say i love someone, I do. I’m just waiting for them to match my loyalty. And yet none have. That’s why I’ve come to conclusion, I’ll always be alone. Nobody will love me back the way that I love them.
I’ll continue to say it, “We come into this world alone, we will all go out of it alone.” A true friend, yes, I have yet to find. When I do meet my true friend, believe me, I’ll probably be on my way out!
“A true friend will tell you things you don’t want to hear. You’re lucky if you have found that friend already.”
